Course Overview:
Course Overview: The purpose of this The Gospels is to present a fourfold portrait of Jesus. The gospels are riddled with themes and types. In this class, students will journey with the author as he explains the Old Testament prophecies that intertwine with these apostolic books, as well as their underlying literary structures. This study will enhance students’ understanding of how God’s dealings with the nation of Israel continue and reach its full purpose in Jesus Christ.
Course Objectives: As a result of laboring in this class, students will:
- Learn more about the historical background and context of the gospel times;
- Learn more about the political, religious, and social setting of Jesus’ ministry;
- Learn more about how Jesus fulfilled the OT covenants and the Mosaic Law code; and,
- Learn more about the literary, historic, and thematic structure of each gospel book

Course Content

Class One: The Introduction
- Learn the definition of Christology
- Learn more about how the Church formed Christological doctrine from the patristic to reformation to modern periods of Church history
- Become more familiar with the background to the New Testament

Class Two: The Introduction & Christology Pt. 2
- Learn the definition of Christology
- Learn more about how the Church formed Christological doctrine from the patristic to reformation to modern periods of Church history
- Become more familiar with the background to the New Testament

Class Three: The New Covenant
- Learn more about the continuity of Jewish history from OT to NT
- Learn more about the historical and messianic interpretation of OT prophecy
- Learn more about the “Intertestamental” period

Class Four: The Story of Jesus the Christ
Lesson Objectives – At the end of this lesson, students will:
- Learn more about the Harmony of the Gospels
- Review each major period during the life of Christ
- Learn more about the fulfillment of OT prophecy in the Gospels

Class Five: The Formation of the Gospels
Lesson Objectives – At the end of this lesson, students will:
- Learn more about the Harmony of the Gospels
- Review some modern theories regarding the composition of the Gospels
- Learn more about the specific role of the Early Church Fathers and their contribution to the Gospels as we know them today
